I was so lucky I did not find a job!

However, one year later, kaboooom, it was my turn to be retired by the company I worked for. I was forced to put some effort in the business that IMG offered but I was half hearted. I was not focused on business. I still hoped that I could go back to the career I academically and experience wise was prepared and comfortable with. My money mind set has not be fully converted. I was still programmed to be an employee. My JOB attachments and my brains are too tough to breakdown. But months passed and I was not lucky, or looking back, I was so lucky I did not find a job!

The company (IMG) opened our minds in the reality that the financial solutions our parent had no longer applies to ours. My father and Fely's father were both in the uniformed service. "Tatay" ( it is how we call our father) was a policeman. His career started and ended as a policeman. We are twelve in the family. He had no business, and did not encourage us to go for business. He was able to support all of us 12 of his children in our education. So my mind pattern is to be an employee with good pay and like my father retire as an employee. So when the company retired us before our desired plan, we were left without a choice but to pursue our own business.

Chapter Two: Our Mindset Conversion

Mid of 2007 Fely was already notified by her company that her job will be eliminated and thus her position will no longer exist. She was identified for early retirement. So before she actually reached her last day in office, we searched for guidance how we will be able to manage our finances. We bought and read books. We attended seminars and studied different business options. During this time I was still employed, and Fely was still receiving her monthly salary. There was not as much pressure to embark on a business at this time.

November of that year, we decided to join a company named International Marketing Group-IMG. This is after we learned about it in Bro Bo Sanchez's Truly Rich Coaching Seminar. Our only motivation is for us to become the broker for all our financial services needs such as our investments, property insurance, and healthcare. Business is at that point something we did not seriously consider yet as I was still employed and receives my monthly income. We just wanted to make sure we get our finances in order and have the retirement money of Fely invested properly. For us, business takes the back seat. It is not a priority.

What Drove Us to Get Off from J-O-B?....

Fely and I frantically looked for a job. But Fely and I were over qualified for most job vacancies, and our previous salaries are too high. The options we have going back to a job is so slim that it is practically to our disadvantage. Days passed by, months passed by, and finally a year passed and I failed to get into a job. With too many responsibilities, and too many payables to worry about, this became our driving force to seriously pursue our own business and get off from the JOB- Journey Of the Broke.

Change of Tide in Our Career....

We programmed ourselves to retire at age 60 and then enjoy our retirement. Early on with our career, we were high flyers. That was in the first decade. The second decade when we were married with growing kids were the trying moments. It was really pressure laden, and it was also the period where we have accumulated so much debts. I remember going home one night after working for more than 12 hours in the office, half dazed and defocused on my driving that I almost met an accident. This was due to the job pressures, and demands of my job and my boss.

We were caught in a tumultuous and fast changing decade. The decade that saw the world economy giants start to collapse. Companies started to do drastic cost cutting measures. Our respective companies started also to shrink their factories, and consolidate their resources. We faced the greatest fears in our JOB: retrenchment, redundancy, early retirement and outright cutting headcounts (same objectives with different names- reduced manpower).

The third decade was the most disastrous part of our career. What we thought as retirement at age 60 came early. Actually it was too early as Fely was just 48, and I was 52 when the company we worked for retired us. Fely's retirement was a little more pleasant than mine. She was given at least 6 months of transition prior to her actual separation from her company. Mine was totally different. It was a terrible experience.

Let me tell you about that last phase in my corporate life: I was able to detect something anomalous in our way of handling our quarantined products. Instead of fixing the problem, and improving the system, the blame was placed on me. Eventually, it was me who was asked to do the explaining. Finally, they surprised me by offering me an early retirement. I was revolting inside me. I felt betrayed and used. I felt the whole world tumbled on me as I think of how I can support the education of my children, and how do we survive our day to day existence. I trembled in fear as I calculate the mountain of debts and responsibilities I have to face out from employment! What now? How do we survive?

Chapter One: Our JOB (Journey Of the Broke)

Fely and I were both engineers. We were both the first engineers in our respective family. We were both high flyers in Elementary, High School and College. Fely graduated Valedictorian in Elementary and is consistent honor student in High School, while I am always in the Top 5 of the class and obtained my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering on a Scholarship Grant by the National State Scholarship of the Philippine Government. All the academic preparations are motivated by a dream of making it good in school and landing on a good job. The usual dream of parents in our period is for us to complete our education so we can land a good job in a company. Work on the company we get into and retire in it.

After my graduation, I was taken in as an Instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Adamson University where I finished my engineering. For three years, I was in the academe and as fate would have it, this university is where Fely and I would meet and fall in love.

My first taste of an industry exposure is at Intel Philippines. It was the largest semiconductor manufacturing company at that time I was employed. After two years in that company, Fely also joined the company. We were not yet married at that time. We both enjoyed good paying job. We then got married and were happy to have our combined income to be more than we need. We also had the opportunity to be assigned for an overseas training. We were very good in what we do and got ourselves go up the corporate ladder. So who needs to get into business at this state?

Fely stayed on with Intel and completed about 25 years of faithful service. I moved from Intel to Amkor to Orient Semicon. For many years, we enjoyed our career growth and our pay increase. We had major wins and achievements in our job that hypnotized us to believe that our jobs can bring us to our comfortable retirement

Introduction continued....

Fely and I are both Engineers. We graduated from the same University. Fely: an Industrial Engineer and me (Benj): a Licensed Mechanical Engineer. We both worked for Multi-national companies as Managers before our conversion to businessmen, and missionaries of financial literacy. We had spent more than 25 years of our life in the corporate world and planned that we retire from the company that we worked with. We never had any business of our own. We were employees for so many years and we were happy being just like that.

We earn very well and lived comfortably. We have cars, properties, and paper assets. We have rental incomes and we had set up our minds for retirement in the company we are working with. We thought that our retirement money will be more than enough for us to live the lifestyle and dreams we have for our retirement. But, reality hit us one day when Fely was identified to be retired from her job before she even turned 50.

A double whammy hit us after another year for it was my turn to be retired at age 52. We panicked, or should I say actually double panicked! Here we are in this stage of our life with so much experience and expertise, but jobless. We searched for jobs local and international and offers come in trickles and with low pay. We got job offers in a lower post with almost ¼ of our previous salary.

But God is really good and He always provide. We searched for financial literacy seminars and books to finally prepare for a shift from a career in the manufacturing world into business. We knew we will have difficulty in finding a job so we must be able to set up our own business. We bought and read books by Bro Bo and Robert Kiyosaki. We attended the Financial Coaching seminar by Bro Bo. This gave us the basic information and sparked in us the desire to create our own business.

What we thought as a career disaster in our life became the turning point for a big business venture. This book we have written entitled "SIMPLE CLEAR FAST DOABLE BUSINESS… You Can Do It Too" details how we started and how we became champions in our business.

INTRODUCTION:

Fely and I had long wanted to have our own business. I know a lot of people too want to have their own business. In fact many of our friends who got their separation money embarked on their own business. Unfortunately more than half of the people we know who went into business went bankrupt and lost their money.

Early on in our career in the Semicon Manufacturing we were already toying with the idea to put up our own business. However, our academic preparations set us up for employment. Our family experience also limited us to “sari-sari store” (convenient store) business. It was the business that our parents got into. It was short lived and did not even prosper.

For many years, it has been Fely's and my great desire to set-up our own business but we were not able to pursue it because of our fear of failure. Besides, our comfort zone was employment. We are so thankful that with IMG-International Marketing Group. All of this had been changed and our dream of having our own successful business had come true! We want to share in this book our successful transformation from being an employee to a businessman in a business that is really Simple Fast Clear and Doable...You Can Do It Too!

A Simple Clear Fast Doable Business! You Can Do It Too…

DEDICATION:

First, I would like to dedicate this blog to the following:

To International Marketing Group (IMG) who had given us a business opportunity with unlimited income possibilities, and passive income generation. A business that made us changed from being an employee to investor and entrepreneur. A business that indeed is SIMPLE, CLEAR, FAST, and DOABLE for non-businessmen like me.

To Joen Delas Penas, Noel Arandilla, Cathy Borja of IMG who had coached us and guided us in building our business beyond our imagination and physical borders.

To Dr. Jaime and Dra Jocelyn Lorenzo who initiated us into IMG Business, and coached us in our first months in the business.

To Shirley and Manny San Miguel, Ginalyn and Rey Librado the couples who inspired us, and showed us that persistence and dedication can make us succeed in business.

To Xuan Nguyen of World System Builder ( WSB) who inspired us to dream beyond our dreams. He made us believed in the IMG System and what the business stands for.

To Bro. Bo Sanchez who had inspired us to become businessmen, and made sure that our pursuit to material wealth is grounded on Holy purpose. He illuminated our mind and spirit to combine business and mission.

To the Truly Rich Maker Team all over the world, who had vigorously and passionately helped us grow the business all over the world, spreading the mission of helping people increase their cash flow.

To Reuben James, Felise Charmaine, Raphael Christian, and Francene Chiara; our dearly beloved kids for whom we strive hard to leave our business, and inheritance behind.

To Almighty and ever loving God, who continually showered us with strength of mind, body, and spirit, and clarity of purpose in doing this business.

May this blog, which we will also publish as eBook and the conventional book by October this year be of help to you who will read this in setting up your own business!...

The Awakening of Hope

Lord, I love my present and I am excited for the future but I just want to pause and thank you for my past. Looking back I can see why I had to go through the heat. Fire and time moulded me into a beautiful design because you are my potter and I am your clay. Only the potter knows the clay." ---My Facebook status posted July 11.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a good writer. If you can deal with it continue reading, if not STOP right here as I don’t want you to have a bad day *wink*.  To those who want to take the risk… here it goes…

Learn, Inspire and Be Inspired.

Saturday, July 15, I was asked by a brother to share to the attendees of the IMG financial coaching session how I came to know IMG, WHY I joined and how it all begun.

Nervous and surprised that he was serious about it, I immediately grabbed my phone and typed in notepad the summary of my financial journey. If I were to split into phases, my financial journey, can be categorized into three parts. Allow me to unveil to everyone how it all began.

The Awakening

I used to be rich. What happened?

My father was once an OFW just like me. I was born in 1984 and this happened in the year 1985. From his hard earned money while working in Saudi, he was able to put up a door to door business. I bet you can imagine how much income the business brought to our family.

My dad has a business partner, his best friend, who looks after the operation in the Philippines while he does all the ground works in Saudi. My dad entrusted everything about the business to his best friend. Yes! Everything! That includes access to my dad’s bank accounts. One day my dad received the news from my mom that our business went bankrupt. My Ninong took all his money and ran away. He could no longer locate him. My dad was devastated because he knew he made a big mistake of entrusting OUR FUTURE in someone else’s hands.

Money is Cure, Money is Life

It was in 2006 when we found out that my elder sister is ill. She has stage 4 breast cancer. We weren't prepared for it. No insurance, no savings! In short we were financially broke which later turned us emotionally broke as well. We exhausted all our resources from SSS, Philhealth, PCSO including all the K's in our lives (Kaibigan, Kaparokya, Kapitbahay, Kamag-anak, Katrabaho). One day help came. There was this doctor who offered to help us with my sister’s treatment (at no cost) with the condition that she’ll be treated with the new medicine that is being tested to cure cancer. In desperation, my sister agreed. This was her last hope. While undergoing treatment, my sister died. Can we complain or sue the doctor? NO! Because my sister agreed to undergo the treatment despite the risks involved. No money, no cure, no life!

Chase your dreams, know how and where to access it

I want to be financially free so I searched the net to learn more about investments and surprisingly a familiar name came up from the articles I've read.   I found out that our rich uncle (I can't say who he is but he is the VP of the financial asset sector of a famous bank in the Philippines) acquired most of his wealth from investing. How odd! I had to learn from my uncle through the Internet! That very moment I was punched by the reality that you will never know unless you ask. Was my uncle selfish because he kept to himself the solution for poverty? I don’t see it that way. My uncle should have been my access to reaching my financial goals but “I” failed to ask. Take note of the word “I”.

The birth of “HOPE”

Blessings come to those who seek

I have always been curious about how investing in the stock market works so I searched for a good book to read on the topic. I read the book “My Maid Invests in Stock Market…And Why You Should, Too!” written by Bro Bo Sanchez. The book changed my life big time. You think after reading I was blessed financially? Not yet! I was blessed spiritually first then financially. Through the book, I learned about LOJ (Light of Jesus) community and so I searched if there is one here in Singapore. I went to the feast ALONE but went home with new set of friends who journeyed with me in becoming Truly Rich. My blessings if you ask me? It’s LOJ and my new friends. They gave me HOPE.

You are who your friends are

As mentioned above I have friends who invest in building a good relationship with God and building a solid financial foundation. I used to have many friends who influenced me to acquire new clothes, gadgets, to travel, etc.
To cut the story short, they taught me how to spend. They also taught me how to save… so I will have more money to spend. You see, I used to be hopeless that I can be rich because my friends also did not believe that they can be one. I worked as a Unit Manager for Citibank back in the Philippines and at that time I thought that my salary was not enough to support my family and my needs (the needs I’m talking about are actually wants). Looking back, my salary was more than enough if only I knew how to spend and invest wisely.

Everything in God's perfect time

Now that I know how money works and how investments can affect our future, I wish I knew about this when I was still a teenager. However, I realized that I have to go through all those trials so I will be armed with lots of inspiration to strengthen my financial foundation. If I invested 10 years ago when I was still financially irresponsible, by now the money I acquired have been used on material things instead of using the money to prepare for my future. If not for my wealth of experience, I wouldn’t be in the position to share how God has blessed me in the spiritual and financial aspect of my life. Is it too late for me to start investing? NO! This is the perfect time for me to build my investment. I could have started investing early to reap more fruits but it is never too late to start. God’s perfect time to dream big is always NOW!

 The point of NO RETURN

I am fed up being financially broke and irresponsible. I am at a point in my life where I want to make sure that I have enough for the rainy days and am prepared in case of unfortunate circumstances. I am planning for my future and retirement as I do not want to wake up one day when I’m 60 and realise that I have not saved anything and only have five years left or no time at all to do so. I’ve been awakened and privileged to be given HOPE. There is no turning back… I am now traversing the road to becoming Truly Rich!

SLACKER?

How long will you slumber, O sluggard? —Proverbs 6:9

While studying the book of Proverbs in my small-group Bible study, our leader suggested that we change the description of a lazy person from a sluggard to a slacker (6:6,9). Ah, now he was speaking my lingo. I immediately started thinking of all the people I consider to be slackers.
...

Like the men and women who fail to teach and discipline their children. Or that guy who refuses to help around the house. Or those teenagers who neglect their studies and play Internet games day and night.

If we’re honest, we’re all susceptible to this. What about being a “prayer slacker” (1 Thess. 5:17-18), or a “Bible-reading slacker” (Ps. 119:103; 2 Tim. 3:16-17), or a “non-exercising-of-our-spiritual-gift slacker” (Rom. 12:4-8), or a “non-witnessing slacker”? (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8).

If we are not doing what we know God wants us to do, we are certainly spiritual slackers. In fact, when we refuse to obey God, we are sinning.

Listen to these challenging and convicting words from the book of James: “It is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it” (4:17 NLT). Let’s not be spiritual slackers.

When we know what God wants us to do,
But then we refuse to obey,
We’re ignoring the voice of the Lord,
And sinfully choosing our way. —Sper

We may make excuses for not obeying God, but He still calls it disobedience. (by Agnes Domingo-Arbon)

We are Privileged

God has empowered us to live life fully with meaning and purpose. To dream big, and make all possibilities to realize our dreams. Serve at your best, serve without limits and increase your number.

It is our privilege as children of God that all the resources are all around us. We just have to acknowledge that they exist and God has provided us everything that we need. He has already planned each of us to be prosperous. Our task is to plan how to enrich ourselves and share these abundance to serve and glorify God.

Providence is already in us. Use it well, use it more to serve and Glorify God's kingdom.

Prosper your mind! Serve and Glorify God!

Prayer:
We acknowledge your healing power, O God, Empower us more and increase our service by sharing your healing power and make others realize your Greatness.

Called to Mission

It was not long ago when I was invited to attend the same seminar. I'm a truly rich club subscriber for years so it wasn’t really that difficult for my friend to invite me to sit in this seminar. But as usual, since I’m a Truly Rich Club subscriber, I’d say "alam ko na yan! Nag subscribe na ko nyan kay Bo." But friend, this I tell you, I'm glad I came!

It’s not because you have read a lot, heard a lot and more will you know everything. Sometimes some things are customized and may have different instruction manuals you need to follow to be able to operate. In the Gospel of Mark last Sunday, Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew, and said "Come, I will make you fishers of man" so they left their nets and followed Jesus. Then along the way they saw James, son of Zebedee and his brother John and they too followed Jesus. See friends, Jesus did not call for the King to be his disciples. He called the fishermen, tax collectors; he called common people to teach his ways.

This is how I got into this. The mission of Truly Rich Maker Team is clear to me and they really did touch me, that is to teach people to be truly rich and good stewards of money, to build wealth for families that will bless the world. Yes, they are not financial managers in big time finance companies, not even graduates of banking and finance, but the example that they have set is amazing. Young as they are, they know the value of growing their income big and where to put these earnings! It made me turn 360 degrees when it comes to managing my finances. Thank you Leo ganda, Rex, Yanmar & Raymund!

It is probably not every day that we will come across a work like this if we keep ourselves deaf, mute and blind. In the earlier days I used to define JOB as the Journey of the Broke now I'd like to call it the Journey of the Bountiful! With this team, this Job is fulfilling. We are able to live our prophetic mission as a living example.

So if you could, come and join us with the mission and you'll see commissions follow later. Have a truly rich new year! God cheer and God bless!
